I Believe In Myself

Hey,

Believing in yourself doesn't always feel the way people describe it. It's rarely a surge of confidence before something big. Most of the time, it's quieter, more like continuing anyway, even when you're not sure. It's showing up to things with no guarantee they'll work out, and doing it regardless.

A lot of us learned to wait for certainty before we moved. To only try when we felt ready, when we had enough evidence that it would go well, when someone else had already told us we could do it. The problem is that certainty usually doesn't come first. And waiting for it can cost years.

You can doubt yourself and still trust yourself at the same time. Those aren't opposites. Doubt is what makes you careful. Trust is what makes you move. When you act despite the fear, when you advocate for yourself in a room that feels uncomfortable, when you try again after failing at something, that's belief in action, even when your internal voice is still arguing with you about whether you're qualified.

People who seem self assured aren't living in a highlight reel of confidence. Most of them are just practiced at tolerating uncertainty. They've built a relationship with trying, where the trying matters more than the outcome. That's the actual thing. Not some locked in sense of knowing you'll succeed, just a willingness to meet yourself in the attempt.

Where this gets hard is when the world has given you real reasons to doubt. When your confidence was knocked out of you young, or when you've failed publicly, or when the people around you were better at pointing out what you couldn't do than what you could. Rebuilding after that isn't about flipping a switch. It's slow and uneven and sometimes you backslide. That's not a sign it isn't working.

A Little Note from Me:

What I eventually understood in my life is that self belief isn't a feeling you activate. It's a habit you build by acting before you're ready, surviving the outcome, and going again. If you're in that rebuilding phase right now, you don't need to feel it yet. You just need to keep going. The feeling tends to follow.
