I can let go
Your Reminder ;)
I can let go
Hey,
Letting go isn't a one time thing. It's not like you wake up one day and just...poof, you're free. It's messier than that. It's you, holding onto something at 2am, then somehow putting it down at 9am, then picking it right back up by lunch. And that's okay. That's actually part of doing it right.
We hold onto stuff because it feels safer than the unknown. An old version of a friendship. A grudge that used to protect you. A dream that didn't pan out the way you pictured it. Even pain gets familiar after a while, and familiar feels like home even when it's not good for you. So letting go isn't weak or dramatic, it's just really, really freaking hard. Nobody talks about how much energy it takes to keep carrying something you know you need to drop.
Letting go doesn't mean it didn't matter. It doesn't erase the memory or pretend the hurt wasn't real. It just means you're done letting it run the show. You get to keep the lesson without keeping the weight. That's the whole move. Not forgetting, not pretending, just choosing to stop dragging it everywhere you go.
Your hands can only hold so much. Every time you keep gripping something that's already gone, you're leaving less room for something new to land in your life. Letting go isn't losing, it's making space. And you deserve so much space.
A Little Note from Me:
I used to think letting go meant I had to be totally okay first. Like I needed to feel completely fine before I was allowed to move on. Turns out that's backwards. You let go a little, and the okay comes after, not before. If you're still holding something tight right now, you don't have to drop it all at once. Loosen your grip today. That's enough. That counts.
