Hey,
At some point, someone made you feel like sitting down was something you had to earn.
Maybe it was a parent who always seemed to be doing something, a school that graded you on how much you did, a job that called it a "hustle culture" like that was supposed to sound cool. Or maybe it was direct. You were called lazy. You were told that rest leads to nowhere. And now, even on your days off, there's this low hum of guilt that follows you around when you're not being productive.
That guilt isn't your conscience. I honestly feel like it's just conditioning.
Your body doesn't care about your schedule. It doesn't know it's the weekend, or that you finally have a free afternoon. It just knows it's tired. And tired doesn't always look like falling asleep at your desk, sometimes it looks like losing focus, saying the wrong thing to someone you love, or feeling like everything takes more out of you than it used to.
Rest is what makes the rest of your life possible. Just as a normal, necessary part of being human.
There's this idea that rest has to be productive to count, meditation apps, journaling, stretching routines you have to track. And some of that stuff is great. But sometimes rest is just lying there. Watching something dumb on Netflix. Letting your mind wander. That counts too. Actually, that might be the whole point.
You are not a machine that needs to justify its downtime.

A Little Note From Me:
I used to feel this strange panic whenever I wasn't doing something. Like I had to stay moving or I'd fall behind, behind what, I still couldn't tell you. The guilt around rest is almost always louder than it needs to be. The world will not fall apart because you took a nap. Some of the clearest thinking I've ever done came right after I stopped trying to think so hard. Give yourself permission to just be for a minute. You've been going for a long time.
